"Doing more exercise with less intensity,"
Arthur Jones believes, "has all but
destroyed the actual great value
of weight training. Something
must be done . . . and quickly."
The New Bodybuilding for
Old-School Results supplies
MUCH of that "something."

This is one of 93 photos of Andy McCutcheon that are used in The New High-Intensity Training to illustrate the recommended exercises.

I recieved a copy of the Mentzer HIT dvd this weekend. Both Mike & Ray push Markus through a "real" workout. Its the first time ive seen the Mentzer brothers on film since the original HD video from the eighties, some 15 or so years earlier.

Athough Mike obviously didn't have his former physical prsence, it still made compulsive viewing, with Mike passionately extolling the virtues of HIT, and barking commands to Markus.

Some of the w/o scenes could have benefited from more attention to "setting up" as the frequent pauses for correct weight selection etc, did interupt the flow somewhat. That said, it still made enjoyable viewing, albeit tinged with sadness knowing that Mike & Ray would very soon not be with us anymore.

Thx for the feedback coomo!

What most people dont know about the Video is that all the scenes were filmed in less then 6 hours - which means, there was no fancy script, times to set up and time to really prepare much - the guy who produced the video called me up 2 days before and said "Markus, I need you to meet Mike at the gym tomorrow and do this for us" - LOL - so I came in on almost no carbs and try to do this...most sets were taken to failure and some were faked by myself - but for the most part I was going all out and had to pay for it by being sore for the entire week after.

I am pretty proud to be one of the last people Mike worked with and am still looking at the DVD myself when I wanna get charged up for some real HIT workouts - he was the best motivator anyone could have going tru a set I tell you...he pushed me to the limits!

did Mentzer ever talk with you about smoking? because I have read and seen pictures from the outtakes of the dvd where he is smoking ... i also read he has always been a smoker, do you know more on that topic?

Mike was an avid smoker - I am not sure when he picked up that bad habbit but I dont think he did it during his competitive days.

ps. certainly another nail in the coffin - to be honest I smoke myself- but i only do it when I drink...which is even worst...shows were all not perfect - and certainly not always what the magazines made us out to be - I will try to quit....lol

i see ... well I smoke too and I always had good results, even when i tried to switch it off for a few months, the results were as steady as when I smoked .. so I stayed with it, but in fact, during the week I keep my smoke intake pretty low, but on weekends, when I drink, just tastes good hehe ... but i never made a big deal about drinking and smoking... I am originally from poland, so alcohol is in my blood hehehe :D

but thanks for the little insight anyway ;)

btw, how is contest prep goin' ?
