I've been a long time lurker on this site and a follower of Dr. Darden's since I stumbled onto one of his books in 1993. I'm 46 years old, 6' and weigh 210 lbs. This pic was taken today.

Great to hear from those in similar age bracket as myself. Great pic , & I look forward to watching your progress.

Aged approx 26 Yrs ( L ) & 46 Yrs ( R )
Of late , ( after many years of training without look/physique at the forefront of my reasons for doing so ) I've been training in an attempt to regain a degree of `Look` that I once had ( like pic left ).
Ive tailored my exercises/routine ( & diet ) to accommodate what I believe would achieve such with somewhat more volume and exercises ( & rep range ) aimed at my specific goal of reducing certain areas ( waist/low back thickness , and middle thigh ) whilst accentuating others ( shoulder-waist taper , low quadriceps in particular ) hopefully losing the rather `blocky` look from years of powerlifting.
I feel Im getting closer to where I wish to be , but still have some way to go before I can honestly say Ive achieved my best.

The difference is that in the first picture there are sharper specular highlights on your muscle and in the 2nd image the light is more diffuse on the skin. There is a bland sort of specularity for want of a better word or whiting out over broad areas in the 2nd image.
So my conclusion would be the main difference is either lighting or something to do with your skin.
You can try getting a tan, changing your diet, I am loathe to suggest moisturiser but you could try it. Maybe cardio would help?
But I don't think HIT will help you with that. IMO as far as your training you should set a specific goal related to strength or to bodyfat.

Also possibly a slight change in fat distribution more defined legs and less tight mid section.

T, you look as good or better than you did as a much younger man...this is NO easy task...my "hat" is off to you...for your persistence AND follow through.
You PROVE that when a man is determined, exercises his will, AND follows consistently well laid plans, success is a given, and totally expected result.
Congratulations!

Many thanks Gerry.
As I said the pics were not really for comparison purpose , I posted simply to highlight where I wish to go with my body composition over the coming year , that being of a more aesthetic look rather than training with no forethought as to how the inclusion of certain exercise ( & the negating of some ) can determine ones look.
There are certainly areas that I have improved upon since those pics from years ago ( legs being the obvious ) but there are also areas of muscularity and of muscular imbalance built up over the years that detract ( low back/waist line , and gluteal areas in particular ) , it is the latter areas that I am attempting to address by eliminating heavy exercise that would affect such whilst concentrating on increasing resistance on exercise that would enhance the look I am after.
Best , T.

Don't be such a piss artist. If you ask for a way to achieve "a degree of look" from your youth what the hell do you expect me to recommend?
Bottom line is if you set yourself a stupid goal you should expect stupid advice.

I don't recall asking for ANY advice let alone YOUR advice Arserimmer ? .... Stick to your moisturiser and fake tan.

Don't project your desire to look like a younger version of yourself onto me Turpin. I don't use those products because unlike you I have no desire to achieve "a degree of look" I once had in the past.

Again , I don't recall `projecting` ANYTHING your way !
YOU seem ( by your posts ) to infer that I want/or asked for advice , I didn't & most certainly NOT from yourself ..... nor would I ,unless I wanted a big `fat`/shapeless arm and well moisturised /tanned skin.
If ( as you say ) you don't use the products you `advised` then why `advocate` their use ? ............ Going by your video ( the one where you were in your teenage bedroom with your Take-That posters ) I would say that I am quite a bit older than yourself , so a goal of retaining or regaining a decent physique ( futile as it may seem ) is a worthwhile endeavour.

I'm happy to call it a day on this one.
Let the record book show that I advocated specific achievable goals and Turpin in his infinite wisdom continued to pursue the goal of
"a degree of look"

Once again , I never asked you for advice in the first place.
I would say my `infinite wisdom` is far more valid than yours when it comes to myself and my efforts , so save your `specific` advice for those behind the makeup counter in `Boot`s`.

I wish I could say that the setting of specific goals was MY ADVICE but the truth is that it's COMMON KNOWLEDGE.

So effectively you are saying that setting specific goals is a good idea so long as it was your idea?

Thanks Turpin.
I found the trick for me was to reduce frequency. We only lift every seven days and my gym partner and I have both shown steady growth.
From January to April, I cut 2.88% body fat and added 2 pound of body weight - in nine workouts.
