"Doing more exercise with less intensity,"
Arthur Jones believes, "has all but
destroyed the actual great value
of weight training. Something
must be done . . . and quickly."
The New Bodybuilding for
Old-School Results supplies
MUCH of that "something."

This is one of 93 photos of Andy McCutcheon that are used in The New High-Intensity Training to illustrate the recommended exercises.

Over a month ago I started trying to do pullups and dips and nothing else.I couldn't do one. Once a week I have started off trying to do a pullup, then I would do 2 sets of as many negative pullups I could manage which was around 2 sets of 4.I'd rest about 2 minutes each set. Then I'd do dips. At first I couldn't even do one dip but finally got up to 2 dips.My back, chest and triceps are sore after each work and it' been over a month now and I still can't get my chin anywhere near the bar on pullups.

how much do you weigh?

== Scott==
I weigh about 187 -190 at 5?7? . In my prime I weighed about 175 and I could do 5 chins easily. Getting old or should I say out of shape sucks. I thought my machine pulldows etc we?re keeping me in shape to do chins. Not so.

Hi Crotalus,
I don't want to break into Turpin's thread so I'll PM you later when I get back home re hip-belt squatting options.

Cheers,
Ray

Thanks Ray. Yeah, I hesitated to post here again for the same reason . No rush .... I was just thinking aloud again, LOL. Thanks

Great video from Turpin. Looking at the timer, he completes 10 pullups in about 36 seconds. That's 3.6 seconds per rep including the pauses at the top and bottom of each rep.

Does it look explosive?
Does it look too fast?
Does it look sloppy?
Does it look dangerous?
Was Turpin counting his rep cadence in his head?
Was Turpin thinking about rep speed at all?

No.

He was probably just thinking about effort and contracting the correct muscle groups.

Real training footage showing once again that HIT theory doesn't translate to actual training practice.

10+ years ago this forum was basically about rep speed and nothing else.

I don't know. I'm 36 and from what I can gauge, for the most part it's a bunch of 40+ guys shooting the breeze about things related to training. Not always training itself.

I posted 29 times in 2016.

I posted twice in 2017.

This is my 7th post in 2018.

My lurking and reading of these forums matches the frequency of my posting. A while back I bookmarked Turpins YouTube channel and this thread. This thread is the only reason I visit this site. I probably look at it once a month for a few minutes. It's fairly quick and easy to determine if there's anything of value for me here.

This thread inspires me more and teaches me more than the rest of the forum put together.

I hope Turpin keeps training for as long as he's physically able to.

Split squats as assistance work on lower body day at 15 reps per leg x 3 sets.

VIDEO : https://www.youtube.com/...eature=youtu.be

These really are brutal hitting everything from the vastus medialis to the glutes and hamstrings.

I do them fairly similarly...agreed, great overall leg and glute exercise. It's my "main" leg compound movement and a very safe movement with no back/spine involvement.

Your praise for this thread is only matched by your seeming distaste for the rest of the forum.
