"Doing more exercise with less intensity,"
Arthur Jones believes, "has all but
destroyed the actual great value
of weight training. Something
must be done . . . and quickly."
The New Bodybuilding for
Old-School Results supplies
MUCH of that "something."

This is one of 93 photos of Andy McCutcheon that are used in The New High-Intensity Training to illustrate the recommended exercises.

Can someone explain the truth of the leg press on the compound leg? I was told that the weight can be doubled somehow. I am very green to this so sorry if i sound stupid. I had purchased a butchered compound leg and have since restored it(minus the cut cam on the extension). the last owner said that if properly put together that if you pressed 100 on the stack it would be 200. anyone?

The weight stack moves about twice the distance of the movement arm. Simple physics. If you have 100 lbs. on the weight stack you are actually lifting 200.

Anyone notice that this particular machine is the hardest to get started at beginning of the ROM?

I saw that Mentzer had Reindhart push with his hands to overcome this when pre exhausting.

Im the one who you got the leg press from. The truth, well I did not lie to you. Maybe did not explain it well.Sorry. If you have put it back to original, you have a 300 pound leg stack. You also have the big cams and the pulley (was told its called a resistance doubleing pulley). Also the distance the weight stack travels.

The combination of all this makes the resistance aprox. twice a heavy,(double the weight stack) you still you have a 300 pound stack, the stack does not change. Jones made the machine, and Dr.Ken posted this the machine was made for very strong trainers. So if you can press the whole stack, you are pressing a hell of alot. Hope this makes more sense.

If you remember the way I had it,I bypassed everything and just ran it off the big sprocket. Thus the 300 was just that, not like the above info. Thats why I mentioned that I pinned extra weight on the the stack.Example,If I added 300 (double)to the stack (the way I had it)This is how I tried to make up the difference so to speak by not useing the extra pulley.

You will be fine with the leg ext. cam. It works the way it should, nothing changed but the piece that was cut out,it is set up like it came from the factory. Sorry if I got you confused, hope this dont make it worse :). If you got time I would like to see a pic of it once your done with it. I bet you have a good story to tell everyone the size of the room I had it in.

Hope you made it up 81 ok. My wife is happy its gone, she did use it and trains very hard, when doing the pre-exhaust she called it the *&%#^ electric chair. Dave

Very hard,I think the strength curve was not ment for us mear mortals, weather you pre-ex or not. If you push very hard on the last rep and get it past the size of those cams and hit failure between there and lockout you legs will be burning heart pounding lol. There where some strange sounds of lets say discomfort comeing out of my house.

The machine is wicked, no doubt. I wish the one they had had the full 500 pound stack on it. The one this gym had was the 250 pound version.

hi i have 2 compound leg presses, best machine ever. just a question about proper use of leg press? once you have got the leg press in start positon legs straight you bend legs slowly 4seconds for full range stretch. now knees are fully bent and you are about to push legs straight. here is the question? is the pushing legs straight speed fast? and do you full extend legs? or just stop short of full leg extension??? i have tried it many different ways and the most intense and gets the legs burning is fast put controled push and no pause in lock out
