HOW is it possible That I have lost muscle?! Lost 5 pounds of muscle Since My last dexascan. Have lost 16 pounds of fat as well but have lost 5 pounds of muscle as well. I have had my metabolic rate measured and it comes out to / 2200 calories at rest. The tech said I was not eating enough food as I am following the killing fat diet. Somewhat loosely I might add but the calories are very very close. He said I was not eating enough food. I'm getting stronger in the gym Am on HRT Test pellets cause I had VERY Low T. BUT HAVE LOST MUSCLE!!!

how accurate is a dexascan??..and how do you look in the mirror
I applied the dexascan machine a few times on some of my subjects in Dr. Michael Pollock's lab at the University of Florida during the 1990s. But I could not get consistent readings on fat and muscle. With several guys, it was obvious that that they were significantly stronger (and had built more muscle), but their results showed showed what you experienced.
Since then, I've relied on skinfold caliper readings, workout records, and before-and-after measurements and photos to determine my overall results.

I understand the concerns about the scan , but how do you look ? Are you looking worse or better than before your current diet/workout routine ?
I'm asking because many times people get so caught up in the numbers and high-tech bullshit and over look how much better they look. If you're looking better, feeling better and stronger than to Hell with the scans.

Think the machine would be more accurate now than then? Wish you lived closer so I could get you to caliper me!
I have not lost any strength and am even on the Test Pellets so.......Is it possible I might to far under the BMR? Had any subjects that have that issue?
Thanks Dr. D!

Just eat veggies meat fish cheese. And avoid all sugar breads rice pasta Basically all processed carbs. The only carbs u should eat are from green veggies this will cause your body to burn its own fat and not only will no muscle be lost. U will also gain muscle mass. Low carb high protein is nutrient dense and are not stored as fat like the processed carbs. When u cut calories with the traditional high carb western diet. U are not getting enough nutrients. Hence what u experienced is the norm. A loss of muscle along with fat. It is the opposite with the Atkins low carb type diet. It?s basically how the old school bodybuilders eat Before the extreme steroid abuse of today. It?s science. And the results will be dramatic. If u are very strict with the low carb 30 grams or less per day for 4 to 6 months. U will be shredded and stronger. It takes a few weeks to become keto adapted you?ll lack a bit of strength and energy but after that adaption phase. Bam you?ll have more energy and strength then u has prior to starting this diet. Very easy to follow eat as much as u want in the beginning and after u become adapted. You?ll end up eating a lot less because your insulin receptors will heal and u won?t get extreme hunger like with the processed carbs that are high in calories and low in nutrients.

what you propose did not work for me...I did not start losing bodyfat until I did the 30-10-30 and eating lifestyle from the book Killing Fat
atkins, paleo, keto, low carb, no carb, carnivore, vegan, intermittent fasting did not help me lose any body fat or even lose any weight for that matter
I am on the carb rich, 5x a day eating lifestyle along with 30-10-30 and lost 15 lbs this year, I am stronger, leaner and feel a lot better

My initial thoughts on going through Dexascans and using calipers, etc to test fat lose is if I ever got that obsessed with fat lose , just shoot me ! Ha ha !

Although I have seen it referred to as the Gold Standard for body composition testing, it is subject to errors from variations in hydration and the glycogen content of the muscle. Creatine use can also affect the results. Were you fasted before the second test, but not the first? Maybe you were carb loaded when you started, and then glycogen depleted for the second test owing to the low calorie diet?

Scott I eat 2-3 cheat meals a week as mentioned in the cardio thread. I don't go crazy and overindulge though. Today for example I will go to SAMs club to do my shopping. I will have a slice of pizza, a beef hotdog and my once weekly diet coke. Thats 1 of 2-3 cheat meals weekly. Real food just tastes better to me since I broke the sugar addiction.

Looks good, healthy and balanced to me.
I need to go under 100g of carbs to get lean however and slightly higher on both fats and proteins, but in between cutting, that's a sound approach your following.
